Tristan is a product of public schools. He spent kindergarten through 12th grade as a student in Swampscott Public Schools, where he also served as the student representative on the school committee his senior year. He then attended Salem State University, graduating summa cum laude with a Bachelor’s Degree of Political Science. After Salem State, he attended Suffolk University Law School, earning his juris doctor, and was sworn into the Massachusetts Bar in June, 2024.
Tristan has spent his entire adult life working with youth in a variety of roles. He has worked In Lynn Public Schools, Swampscott Public Schools, and St. Mary’s Lynn as a substitute teacher, providing a unique opportunity to see firsthand the different experiences of various classroom teachers in grades K-12. Furthermore, Tristan taught Constitutional Law in Boston Public Schools as part of the Marshall-Brennan Constitutional Law Fellowship during his time at Suffolk University Law School. He also taught Lynn Public School students at Frederick Douglass Collegiate Academy and Lynn Tech as an early college adjunct professor at North Shore Community College. In 2024, he was appointed to the city of Lynn’s Youth and Adolescence Taskforce, a new taskforce created by Councilor Nicole McClain and Mayor Jared Nicholson.
Tristan has been a cross country and track and field coach for 10 years. During this time, Tristan was awarded the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association Coach of the Year Award, awarded to “teacher coaches” who make a positive impact in the lives of student-athletes. Tristan, alongside the other Lynn track and field coaches including Lynn Tech coach John Hogan, worked to co-found All Lynn Track and Field, which annually puts on the All City track and cross country meets, bringing together hundreds of Lynn school student-athletes for a day of camaraderie, competition, and city pride. Tristan currently serves as President of All Lynn Track and Field, which is now a 501(c)3 nonprofit that supports Lynn cross country and track and field athletes and teams.
In his professional life, Tristan is an attorney in Lynn. He speaks English and Spanish and lives near Flax Pond. You can find him running down Lynn Shore Drive or in Lynn Woods, coaching at Manning Field, or patronizing one of his many favorite local spots.
“I’m running because I truly see schools as a great equalizer, and that is what we need: equity. I believe in public schools because I believe in us. We must ensure that public schools are magnificent structures that stand as beacons of education, creativity, inclusion, and inspiration for not some, but all of our students. This is the great task before us – and let me be clear: it is a monumental one. Given that, it is one I seek to be a positive force in.”
